Roof-top solar scheme to be emulated in Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara and Bhavnagar. In a yet more stride in Gujarat’s bid to become a solar capital, Narendra Modi will dedicate 600 MW solar power generation capacity to the nation on April 19 at Charanka village of Patan district.

Gujarat was the first state to launch a full-fledged climate department and launched a comprehensive solar policy in 2009 to address growing environmental concerns. It has also been the first state in India to achieve the mandatory requirement of energy generated from renewable resources under Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO). Gujarat has been a leader in solar power generation and contributes 2/3rd of the 900 MW power generated in the country.
