Janata Party chief Dr. Subramanian Swamy is not letting Chidambaram go. He tweeted from his personal Twitter account, "Why only Godhra? We discussed 25 years of Hashimpura too and PC's role in it. Yesterday my old friend Syed Shahubbudin dropped in at my residence to discuss the 1987 Hashimpura Maliana massacre by police of Muslims". This has come when the mainstream media is celebrating the ritual of Modi-bashing over Gujarat riots.

Hashimpura massacre had taken place on May 22, 1987, in Meerut city in Uttar Pradesh when 19 personnel of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) allegedly rounded up 42 Muslim youth from the Hashimpura area of the city, and shot them dead. A few days later their dead bodies were found floating in the canals.

16 of the total 19 accused surrendered in 2000 and were later released on bail. The remaining accused were already dead by then. The trial of the case was transferred by the Supreme Court of India in 2002 from Ghaziabad to a Sessions Court at the Tis Hazari complex in Delhi where it is the oldest pending case. The massacre had resulted in Congress losing its government.

Polling is still pending in the last phase of UP election with significant muslim population and by opening up an old chapter, Dr. Swamy has further troubled an already ailing, dying Congress.
